I have always been a gardener. I place vegetables alongside of my flowers. My children have learned where to go when I need some herb or vegetable for a meal. My two year old daughter thinks it is funny to feed raw onions to me.
As our economic crisis began, I saw how many people began to grow their own vegetables. Most were unsure of when to plant or how to plant, so they came to me for advice. I did see this trend coming, but now it has been reported that seed sales are up. I do not think that many of those folks will produce many vegetables without a little know how though.
If you are in Houston, and you need a good source of seeds and organic fertilizers, or even plants, go to Southwest Fertilizer on Renwick and Bissonet. Best selection period! They also have staff on hand to offer good advice, and if I remember correctly, they may have some books about gardening in Houston.
